Homemade Dark Chocolate *Revised and updated*

So I have made a few changes to my original homemade dark chocolate recipe and thought I should pass on the updated information. This recipe yields a lot more chocolate, and I feel it tastes even better! ;)  I don’t pour it into a pyrex anymore. Instead, I dish it into small candy cups, to make personal bite size chocolates. :)  We switched to using Grade B Maple Syrup instead of honey as well. I love the delicate flavor that it brings, and the chocolate melts on my tongue in the most pleasant of ways. :)  It is very comparable to the Dove (c) chocolates that I used to enjoy so much. The picture below is actually of the Paleo “Peanut Butter” Cups that we made! But that is a recipe for another day. ;)

Homemade Dark Chocolate *Revised and updated*

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
  • 3/4 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon Grade B Maple Syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon Homemade Vanilla

Instructions

Melt coconut oil in a small stainless steel pot over low heat.

Add the cocoa powder and stir with a wire whisk until well dissolved and combined.

Stir in the maple syrup and vanilla and stir continuously until the chocolate begins to thicken a slight bit.

Remove from heat.

Line a cookie sheet with as many small candy cups as it will hold.

I use a 1 tsp measuring spoon to put 2 teaspoons into each candy cup. That seemed to be a good size.

Place the cookie sheet in the refrigerator until the chocolate is set firm and then try not to eat them all in one day! :)

  1. I’ve been looking for a way to make my own chocolate that isn’t too complicated, I’ll have to try this! Does it taste maple-y at all and do you think honey could work as well?

Honey works wonderfully! :) And no, I never noticed a maple taste at all. We love the texture that this recipe brings…it is so creamy! :D
